BEST ALBUM OF 2010:  Pantha Du Prince - Black Noise

In 2010, Pantha Du Prince’s, Black Noise, has been played more than any other album in my car, ipod, or home stereo.  We played it to our child in her mother’s womb and even today when are rolling around town, this album flows out our car speakers enveloping us with its beautifully intricate textures and sweeping melodic low end bass.  This is minimal tech house at its finest and reaches a level of sophistication that connoisseurs of classical music as well as hipsters alike could and should appreciate.  Pantha cleverly mixes acoustic natural sounds with tight electronic beats, like ‘Abglanz’ with its meditation bells and woodblock thumps that build layers upon layers of percussion until a lush groove is created and then is broken down into new movements.  This album is dense full of instrumentation but yet has a lightness to it that will make you bounce.  Each track on its own takes you on a journey and as a whole it is almost epic.  I absolutely love this record and rank it among my all time favorites. 

If you haven’t heard Black Noise, please do, give it some time and marinate on it.  Throw it on in the background of your dinner party, during a late night drive, or with a nice scotch and some company.  I guarantee, if someone who hasn’t heard it before does, they will become a convert.  Spread the love, and enjoy.
